About these calculators
Small savings schemes are backed by the Government of India, and their rates are set every quarter. For October to December 2026, PPF pays 7.1% and Sukanya Samriddhi 8.2%.
These calculators use the current rates and each scheme’s own rules on deposits, compounding and lock-in, so the maturity figures match what the post office or bank will pay.
Frequently asked questions
Which small savings scheme is best?
It depends on what the money is for. See post office schemes compared for regular income, lump sums and long-term tax-free saving.
How often do small savings rates change?
The Finance Ministry can change them every quarter. The rate when you open an account stays fixed for its term in most schemes; PPF and Sukanya Samriddhi follow each quarter’s rate.
Is PPF interest taxable?
No. PPF interest and the maturity amount are tax-free, and deposits count under 80C in the old regime.
